Mood Board
As mentioned above, inspiration has been taken from the Singer 911 DLS. Key elements include high quality leather elements, silver of the metal seat studs and a circular motif. Other thematic elements have been included to syncronise the design concept.
Blackwell is a hypothetical interior design project of a barn conversion garage and home exhibition space for a car enthusiast. The design aesthetic is based on a single car which is the central exhibit. The space is also designed to function as a lounge area for rest and relaxation.
Concept Development
Blackwell is the interior–spatial design of a home showroom, and therefore the central focus is the hypothetical client’s most valued posession and central exhibit of the space; the Singer 911 DLS. I have taken inspiration from the intricate design details of the car. This scheme is based on the redesign and conversion of the pictured carport.

(Hypothetical) Garage Remodel and Interior Design
Floor Plan Layout
The main functional criterion of the space was to store two vehicles, the afforementioned, as well as a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. The secondary criterion required the space to house a recreational space, and workshop space fit for minor mechanical work, and to utilise the double height space dictated by the tall pitch of the roof. All of these criteria are achieved in the scheme shown in the adjacent floorplan.
Detail
A refined scheme also comes from attention to small detail. In this vein, the ceiling light fittings were given great thought. Angled columnette intimediacies were an appropriate article to host the Dyke and Dean spotlights.
B&B Italia Atoll
With a shceme of such high caliber, it is imperative that all elements also perform as exibits. The B&B Italia Atoll sofa qualifies; with the leather upholtery and the cylindrical bolster, it fits into the scheme seamlessly.
Workbench and Cabinetry
The primary focus of the workbench area is to enable minor mechanical hobby work. However ensuring cohesion with the rest of the design, the end of each cabinetry run is paralell with the diagonal motif. Also the drawer cabinets loosely reference mechanic tool chests with the wide drawers.
Motif
A motif has been established particularly in the circular theme found in the Singer-added details of the DLS. This is reflected in the sofa, the spiral stair and the light fittings as well as textural elements. Motif used in moderation in this way paired with some symmetry generates an essential calming continuity.
Balance
Balance has also been achieved in both halves of the space. The one half of the foor has a large imposing mezzanine that without distraction, conquers the space. The diagonal element and the detailed workbench and cabinetry provide an equal and oppisite weight to the opposite side of the space in both plan and elevation.
Dyke and Dean Fittings
Again, the Dyke and Dean fittings also perform as exibits. The particular selection of cylindrical fitting ties toghether that motif. The spotlights fit with the green theme and the Cuero range link continue the leather theme.
